Begin with the change you want
Write down what brought you here. A symptom? A concern about getting older? A treatment you have heard about? Keep the aim in your own words.
Take that aim to the visit. Ask the doctor, nurse or other person providing care what they need to learn before discussing a treatment.
Use a name as a starting point
A referral, a search result or a website can give you a name to check. Put the name beside your care question. Then look for the public licence record.
Medical boards publish licence details and records of action taken against doctors. Even when no public action appears in the record, it does not show the quality of care.
Bring the bill into the conversation
Ask what is included before comparing offers. Put the visit, tests, medicine and any ongoing fee on separate lines.
Ask which fees repeat. If a plan includes a membership, ask what the membership pays for.
